PicoSure Tattoo Removal

How does PicoSure® remove tattoos?

The PicoSure laser system emits pulsed light energy every picosecond — one trillionth of a second — to break down pigment in your skin. Dr. Roger Brill uses the Focus™ Lens Array attachment to pulse the laser on specific points of the treatment area.

The laser produces both high and low intensity energy, so you get dual-action removal. The combination of high and low intensity energy breaks down pigments in the skin. The high intensity energy also stimulates an inflammatory response in the skin.

This inflammatory response triggers your immune system to remove the broken-down pigments — now considered waste products — and heal your skin. This allows for faster recovery with less downtime and no risk for scarring. It can also tighten and brighten your skin.

What are the benefits of PicoSure tattoo removal?

PicoSure is the first picosecond aesthetic laser used to remove pigmentation from skin, including all-color tattoos. Since the laser emits pulsing light every picosecond, laser tattoo removal sessions can be completed more quickly than other lasers — with small areas being treated in as few as 15 minutes.

In general, laser tattoo removal is more effective at removing tattoos than other non-surgical options that only fade tattoos. PicoSure removes pigments that other lasers cannot and is safe to use on all skin types.

Laser tattoo removal is also safer than other non-surgical alternatives because it has less risk of infection, as well as minimal recovery and discomfort after the procedure — when compared to procedures that “sand” the skin to remove pigment.

What can I expect after PicoSure tattoo removal?

You may notice mild redness and swelling at the treated area for one to three hours after your session. You can apply moisturizer or sunscreen immediately after since the laser doesn’t damage your skin.

Dr. Brill recommends spacing your laser tattoo removal sessions every four to six weeks to allow your tattoo the time to fade and your skin to heal between visits.

Does PicoSure tattoo removal work?

PicoSure tattoo removal is one of the most effective non-surgical options to remove tattoos. Depending on the size and condition of your tattoo, a specified series of laser treatments to remove your tattoo is required. Older tattoos typically require fewer sessions than newer tattoos.
